Recently, one of several sites that I maintain, that runs on the WordPress platform, was experiencing incredibly slow load times. It seems that no matter what I tried, it just was slow! It seemed to be a site specific issue, because other sites running on the same server seemed to be running as expected.
I searched numerous blogs and forums, but found no real solution to the problem. I upgraded the version of PHP running on the server, changed themes, made sure plugins and the core were on the latest version, etc. as the posts suggested. I disabled all plugins – things were better! I slowly added plugins back in, but none seemed to cause the drastic page loading time change.
Fortunately, I ran across a site that mentioned the WordPress plugin, P3 (plugin Performance Profiler). This plugin, once installed, ran a scan of all of the plugins running on the site. It was able to identify a plugin that was causing the site to load in excess of 50 seconds! Once the plugin was disabled, the site returned to a 1-2 second load time! Even if you are not experiencing major time delays, this plugin could be helpful to ensure that nothing is keeping your site from its optimal performance!
